How Much Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Could Make During Its Second Weekend

After Jurassic World's rampage at the box office in 2015, we knew that its sequel would be big. Although it failed to match the performance of its record-breaking predecessor, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom debuted to a solid $148 million when it opened in theaters last weekend. But just like InGen scientists messing with things they ought not to, Fallen Kingdom isn't done, and it is poised for another winning performance at the box office this weekend. For its second frame, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is expected to bring in a respectable $60 million.

According to Deadline, it's estimated that Fallen Kingdom will drop 60% at the box office this weekend to come in at $60 million domestically. This would be a fairly standard second weekend drop for a blockbuster, although 2015's Jurassic World only dropped 49% in its second weekend. The two Jurassic World films now account for Universal's top two domestic openings of all time. Fallen Kingdom has collected $181.2 million over five days in domestic release. The film opened earlier overseas and per Box Office Mojo has earned $567 million so far for a current worldwide total of $748.14 million. J.A. Bayona's sequel film is well on its way to $1 billion and the three-comma club now, and it will inch ever closer this weekend.

Despite the drop off, $60 million will still be easily enough for number one at the box office, as a blockbuster of the size of Fallen Kingdom is given a fairly wide berth on the release calendar. Facing off with the Jurassic World sequel this weekend are a couple of interesting titles, but none that will have the kind of broad blockbuster appeal to dethrone the dinosaurs. Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro return to the drug war for the R-rated Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado, which should match its predecessor, earning $12 million this weekend. Also opening, with predictions pegging it in the $11-$15 million range, is the PG-13 basketball comedy Uncle Drew.

So Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has some runway to clean up with, including the July 4 holiday, before it faces real competition. The next big blockbuster is Ant-Man and the Wasp, which opens two weeks after the dinosaur flick on July 6. The microscopic heroes will almost certainly be the ones to topple the prehistoric leviathans, as tracking has Ant-Man and the Wasp opening at $75 million.

We Toured Ireland's Incredible Star Wars: The Last Jedi Locations, See What We Saw

Star Wars tourism has been a big industry ever since George Lucas first transported audiences to a time long ago in a galaxy far, far away. Like many modern blockbusters, the original sci-fi trilogy utilized shooting locations all over the globe to create otherworldly landscapes, cities and planets, and a lasting effect has been fans traveling thousands of miles from their homes to visit the specific spots themselves. For years the concept has brought people to places like Tunisian desert (where Tatooine was first created), Finse, Norway (Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back), and Tikal National Park in Guatemala (Yavin 4 in A New Hope), but now Ireland is ready to become the next big hot spot.

For the creation of the planet Ahch-To in both Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson brought their respective productions to the island nation, and utilized the breathtaking sites to create the stunning, isolated home of the legendary Luke Skywalker. It was an incredible choice, as locations like Skellig Michael and the Dingle Peninsula offer up an endless bounty of awe and amazement -- and I can say that with real authority because I had the chance to experience them first-hand last month.

In celebration of Star Wars: The Last Jedi's arrival on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital HD, I joined a small group of other reporters traveling to Ireland back in mid-March, and during a week-long trip dove headfirst into the world of Star Wars. From celebrating St. Patrick's Day with Mark Hamill, to visiting the site of the green milk-spewing Sea Cow, it was an unforgettable experience, and - thanks to lasting memories and a 360 degree camera - one that I will take you back to below and across the next few pages.

St. Patrick's Day In DublinThere admittedly isn't inherently anything that directly links the histories of Star Wars and St. Patrick's Day, but it does make for a wonderfully splashy start for this story. With the home video release of The Last Jedi scheduled for March, the timing for the trip happened to line up perfectly with the famous Irish holiday, allowing the press group to spend our first full day in the city of Dublin enjoying the raucous festivities. Of course, it should also be noted that the celebration did have an important link this year to the beloved sci-fi saga, as Mark Hamill was honored as the Grand Marshal of the annual parade.

Sitting in the media tent on O'Connell Street Lower (straight-up freezing - admittedly due to personal failure to properly pack for the trip), I had the exceptional experience of actually watching Dublin's St. Patrick's Day Parade, and captured a great deal of it using our 360 camera. At the start of the video above you can watch Mark Hamill's arrival to the event, sitting in the backseat of an old fashioned car and getting the crowd riled up, but stick around for some of the weird, wild and fun floats and performances that proved equally entertaining.

And as if those proceedings weren't exciting enough, later in the afternoon I had the chance to sit down one-one-one with Mark Hamill -- discussing his performance capture role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, his perspective on the future of the franchise, and why Rian Johnson's subversion of fans' expectations was so important.

A Boat Trip To Skellig MichaelEscorted by the company Vagabond Tours, the Sunday after St. Patrick's Day was dedicated to travel, as a five hour drive was required to get from Dublin to County Kerry on the other side of the country. While the length of the journey inspired trepidation when first getting into the van, fun conversation as well as striking vistas helped it pass -- with the bonus of an incredibly rare snowfall making things extra beautiful. There was also our intense collective excitement for what would be our first destination in the region: a trip to the village of Portmagee for a boat ride to Skellig Michael.

In the making of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams chose the island Skellig Michael as the shooting location for Ahch-To -- the remote planet where Luke Skywalker lives after going into self-imposed isolation. After traveling there, it's incredibly easy to see why. Not only does it have a rich natural history with similar themes, as monks retreated from society there in between the 6th-8th centuries, but the sites are absolutely stunning. You truly feel a million lightyears away from everything, and the natural rock formations are incredible.

Because landing tours only go out between mid-May and early October due to weather and hiking conditions, we sadly didn't actually get to land on Skellig Michael -- but the trip was no less satisfying. As you can see in the video above, it is remarkable just sailing around the island and its smaller sibling, Little Skellig, witnessing the majesty of the nature as well as the various birds and animals that call it home.

Touring The Beehive HutsOur boat couldn't land on Skellig Michael, but one of the nice bonuses of the trip is that we still had the chance to have a first-hand experience with one of the location's many aesthetic wonders: the Beehive Huts. The day after the boat ride, Vagabond Tours took us up to the Dingle Peninsula to a location called Hold a Baby Lamb And Beehive Huts -- and you can probably take a pretty accurate guess at what we did there.

After first playing around and feeding a herd of incredibly cute baby lambs, I brought the 360 camera out for an investigation of the many Beehive Huts scattered all over the property. As you can see, a few of them were incomplete -- specifically missing roofs -- but it didn't make their construction any less impressive. They were built in various sizes, some with multiple rooms, and it was amazing to see the intricacy of the stone stacking up close.

All that said, I walked away not exactly envying Luke Skywalker's living conditions on Ahch-To. As cool as they are, they aren't exactly spacious, and certainly not built for the comforts of modern living. And while we happened to visit the location on a particularly beautiful day (very different from the snowy conditions a few days earlier), it's hard to imagine the huts being warm during the coldest days of the year.

Visiting The Sea CowLocated on the Dingle Peninsula, the Beehive Huts were just a short drive away from our next stop: Dunmore Head off Slea Head Drive, the westernmost tip of mainland Ireland. It took a small hike to get there, parking next to Slea Head Beach and traversing a bit of hilly grassland, but it was worth it to get to two fantastic Star Wars: The Last Jedi shooting locations. It was here where the production filmed the sequence with the giant Sea Cow that Luke Skywalker used to get milk, as well as the shot of his crashed X-Wing below the waves.

The location was instantly recognizable - as I had just re- watched Star Wars: The Last Jedi before my flight to Ireland -- but the trip there was enhanced by the presence of Mike O'Shea, the man who oversaw all safety and logistics for the production during shooting on the Dingle Peninsula and the Skellig Islands. As you can see in the video above, I had the chance to talk with him one-on-one on camera, and he had some fantastic stories about his experience with the production.

It was a stunning final shooting location visit during my trip to Ireland, and a wonderful cap to an extraordinary trip. I'm far from the first to make the journey, as many Star Wars fans from all around the world have already made similar pilgrimages -- but it's just the start of what will surely become a fantastic tradition. It's a place that will now forever be cemented in the great lore of the legendary sci-fi saga, and I personally already can't wait to go back.

Even though on ABC, we know Agent Phil Coulson is alive and well in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, as far as the film side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is concerned, Coulson's last words were said amidst the Earth's Mightiest Heroes' first team-up in 2012's The Avengers. But thanks to the upcoming Captain Marvel being set in the mid-1990s, Clark Gregg will be returning to the big screen as Coulson. With the help of Marvel's incredible de-aging technology, this time Coulson will play a younger agent who's just starting out his career with S.H.I.E.L.D. After being introduced in the first MCU film, Iron Man, and digging deep into his character for five seasons of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Gregg loved exploring this different era of Coulson. Here's what he said:

There was something really special about going back to the early days when he was just kind of coming up the ranks. I had to take innocence workshops and go back to when he was a little less crusty and jaded!

We're excited to see a young and chipper Agent Phil Coulson grace the screen with Captain Marvel's release. During his interview with Entertainment Weekly, Clark Gregg explained that Coulson is quite the fan of MC Hammer and attempts to channel him, much to Nick Fury's annoyance. Samuel L. Jackson will also be getting the de-aging treatment in the film, as other actors such as Michael Douglas, Robert Downey Jr. and Kurt Russell have for flashback sequences in other MCU films. However, for Gregg and Jackson, the technique will be used throughout the film, as the two S.H.I.E.L.D agents are part of the principal cast.

With Phil Coulson and Nick Fury being much younger in Captain Marvel, the film will mark a turning point for their characters who will meet each other in the film and haven't had any exposure to superheroes or aliens yet. While the superhero flick at first follows Carol Danvers in the elite military team Starforce on the Kree planet of Hala, a good amount of the film will take the hero back to her home planet, where we will meet Fury and Coulson, who are a lot more desk ridden then when we first came to know them. In Fury's case, he will be struggling with the thought that his glory days are over now that the Cold War has concluded.

Seeing Agent Phil Coulson back to the MCU after a seven-year drought from the major leagues while he has been on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D adds to the high anticipation for Captain Marvel. For fans of his television show, Coulson's resurrection has ties to the Kree, and for Carol Danvers, it's the source of her powers. So Coulson's return to the MCU film realm in this specific installment might not be so out-of-the-blue and could have some sort of larger effect on the shared universe. Captain Marvel comes to theaters on March 8, 2019.

Why Black Panther Was A Different Experience For Marvel Veterans Andy Serkis And Martin Freeman

In the comics, Ulysses Klaue and Everett Ross have long been categorized as Black Panther characters -- but on the big screen they actually appeared long before the king of Wakanda's solo movie. Their roles are certainly expanded in writer/director Ryan Coogler's film, but they respectively made their Marvel Cinematic Debuts in The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War. This has led to some diverse experiences for actors Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman -- and I recently had the chance to chat with them both about the contrast. Said Serkis,

I had literally a couple of days with Joss [Whedon]. It was establishing the character, and he was creating certainly a paradigm for that character, which was he's a man who wheels and deals with governments; who is an arms dealer; who is incredibly selfish. And then what Ryan did when I came into the movie with Klaue was actually looking at his slightly more unhinged, slightly madder side - the funner side! The fun potential you could have with a dangerous character.

Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman -- who will forever be connected thanks to their roles in The Hobbit -- were paired together for the Black Panther press day late last month, which offered me the opportunity to ask them simultaneously about their past Marvel Studios experiences. Discussing his first time playing Ulysses Klaue, Serkis offered that it did a nice job putting down the groundwork for the character, but followed up saying that Ryan Coogler really let him lean into the more chaotic side of the villain's mind.

As for Martin Freeman, his answer was a bit different because his time on the set of Captain America: Civil War apparently wasn't really as in-depth as Andy Serkis' was making The Avengers: Age of Ultron. And thinking back on the film, that makes sense. Freeman basically has two big scenes in the blockbuster, but serves more as a government figurehead than anything (not unlike Clark Gregg's Agent Phil Coulson was in Phase One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe). Answering my question about comparing his past Marvel experience to Black Panther, the actor said,

In all honestly, and in fairness to the Russos who I respect tremendously, I had comparatively so little to do in Civil War, [so] I got to know Ryan a lot more. I liked everything about working with Ryan. He was very low key, very committed, hard-working - he knew what he wanted. But he also was very trusting of us, wasn't he? He wanted the scenes to be open and new, and for us to bring whatever we wanted to bring.
