Hotel Transylvania 4 Is Happening

Already missing Count Dracula, Mavis, Johnny and the rest of the Hotel Transylvania fam after their recent fun-filled summer vacation? You can put away your torches, because Hotel Transylvania 4 is in the works and set to hit theaters on December 22, 2021.

After the continued success of the family-friendly take on monster mythology, most recently with Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation making over $528 million in worldwide earnings, its no surprise the franchise isnt becoming Mr. Invisible and moving forward with a fourth installment.

The movies starring the likes of Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Kevin James and Steve Buscemi is Sony Animations most profitable property, with $1.3 billion gross overall, per Deadline. Out of the top five Sony Animation earners domestically, the Hotel Transylvania rank in the No. 2 through No. 4 rank.

Sonys No. 1 grossing film is currently Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which recently dethroned the monster-filled franchise for the top spot domestically. Into the Spider-Verse also awarded the studio its first Best Animated Feature Oscar, breaking Disneys seven-year streak over the weekend.

The hilarious animated movies series centered on Count Dracula and his family and infamous friends has consistently released a sequel every three years. The first came to theaters the first week of October 2012, Hotel Transylvania 2 debuted the same weekend in 2015 and Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation braved the blockbuster season on July 13, 2018. Summer Vacation took the No. 1 spot in its first week, dethroning Ant-Man and the Wasp in its second week and bringing down Skyscrapers success.

Hotel Transylvania will next aim at another packed season for movies: the holidays. While details of the cast and plot have not yet been revealed, Id guess the franchise will be aiming to be themed around the holiday season in some way after taking on Halloween and Summer Vacation but who knows what they have in store!

The fourth Hotel Transylvania movie does have some fierce competition during its set 2021 opening weekend. James Camerons still-untitled Avatar 3 will come out on December 17 one year after Avatar 2, both of which are currently being shot at the same time. On December 22, a Disney live-action film (maybe Cruella or The Little Mermaid?) is also set for that date, along with Universals long-awaited Wicked adaptation and an animated flick from Warner Bros. 2021 is going to be a packed holiday season for movies!

This is exciting news for fans of the Hotel Transylvania fans! The franchise has been consistently a good time, with Adam Sandlers Count Dracula and the whole family seeing his daugher Mavie and her human husband Johnny falling in love, getting married, having a family of their own and sharing an adventure-filled vacation together.

Did Margot Robbie Want Lady Gaga To Join Her In Birds Of Prey?

By  at December 02, 2020  , , ,  No comments
Did Margot Robbie Want Lady Gaga To Join Her In Birds Of Prey?

The DC Universe is a very interesting place. While attempting to compete with the behemoth Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC has forged its own path in a few ways. Most notably, DC doesn't announce slates of films in advance a la the MCU's phases. As a result, there are a ton of announced projects that don't have concrete release dates or any guarantee they'll actually come to fruition. One of them is the Birds of Prey movie, which seems to be picking up speed in its development process. Margot Robbie return to play Harley Quinn, and will likely introduce the DCEU's version of Catwoman, Huntress, and Black Canary. Fans have been wondering who might take these roles, although a new report indicates that Lady Gaga might have been approached. Furthermore, the singer/actress reportedly turned two roles down.

This shocking turn of events come to us from Batman-News, which cited a tweet claiming that Lady Gaga had been offered up to two different roles in Birds of Prey. She was reportedly approached to play either Black Canary or Huntress three months ago, but turned down the role(s). But given her intense involvement in A Star Is Born and her recently announced Las Vegas residency, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

News of Gaga's Birds of Prey snub will likely be disappointing for all the DC fans out there, who are longing for more information regarding the upcoming female-led film. When the project was first announced years ago, fans immediately began debating who would be taking on the femme fatale roles in the upcoming blockbuster. Plenty of names have been thrown around in the past few years, although Lady Gaga has the most starpower by far. Unfortunately, it seems she doesn't want to make her superhero debut anytime soon.

This latest rumor, while unconfirmed, is pretty wild. Especially given the fact that Lady Gaga was reportedly given her choice of both Huntress and Black Canary. While looking at the pop star you might think she'd be best for Canary (I mean, she can use HER VOICE to fight off the bad guys), I actually think Huntress would have been a more fascinating choice for Gaga. Huntress aka Helena Bertinelli, is one of the most deadly members of the Bat-family. Unlike the Batman and Robin, Huntress is ok using more deadly force to take out the criminals of Gotham City. She also has a tragic story related to mob violence, which would be a meaty role for Gaga to sink her teeth into. Plus, she could have used her Italian-American roots to bring the character to life on the silver screen.

CinemaBlend will keep you updated on all things Birds of Prey. The next installment in the DCEU is Aquaman on December 21st, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

This Rotten Week: Predicting First Man, Bad Times At The El Royale, And Goosebumps 2 Reviews

We are now a week into October, a month known for launching awards-hungry titles, auteur projects, and horror movies, and this week we have all three. We take a walk on the moon, visit a motel that isn't what it seems, and dive back into the world of R.L. Stine books. Get ready for First Man, Bad Times At The El Royale and Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween.

Just remember, I'm not reviewing these movies, but rather predicting where they'll end up on the Tomatometer. Let's take a look at This Rotten Week has to offer.

It's pretty crazy that about 50 years after the moon landing First Man is the first big-budget Hollywood film made about what is arguably the most iconic and historical event of the 20th century. Here we get Ryan Gosling portraying Neil Armstrong in the lead up and execution of the Apollo 11 space mission. It details the stress, unknowns and danger involved with the first mission to have a man walk on the moon, and also has the backdrop of how it played within the Armstrong family. It's easy to think about this mission as a breezy, easy success now, but at the time it seemed impossible.

Damien Chazelle directs after working with Gosling on La La Land 91%) , which was his second Best Picture nominated feature after his directorial debut, Whiplash (94%). His latest is garnering a fair amount of critical acclaim following festival premieres with the Tomatometer sitting at 89% with close to 80 reviews counted. Writers seem ti agree both the story and the lead carry the film, and I doubt we see the score drop all that much over the course of the week. It looks like a sure-fire winner.

Bad Times At The El Royale has all the makings of one of those "things aren't what they seem" films, where every character has ulterior motives and they aren't fully revealed until the last possible moment. The production looks slick, and with names like Jeff Bridges, Jon Hamm, Dakota Johnson, and Cynthia Erivo it's ensemble is dynamic. In this one, we see seven strangers show up at a Lake Tahoe hotel with secrets and agendas all their own. What appears to go down is a bunch of who-dunnit narratives that converge as the flick barrels to its end.

Director Drew Goddard has plenty of critical success on his resume, helming The Cabin In The Woods (91%) and writing the Academy Award-nominated script for The Martian (91%). Early reviews on this one are very positive, with the Tomatometer at 79% with almost 40 reviews posted. We might see it drop a little over the course of the week, but not much.

The beloved Goosebumps books very much got the movie they deserved a couple years ago when the decision was made to go full meta and tell a story with Jack Black at its center playing author R.L. Stine - caught up in a bit of madness caused by all his creations coming to life. It was a post-modern approach that worked (resulting in a 77% Rotten Tomatoes score), and in the sequel they seem to continue the same approach, this time focusing on a Halloween story in Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween. The big difference this time seems to be that Jack Black isn't back as Stine, and we have a whole new group of characters to follow.

Still, Goosebumps 2 seems to have the feel of the original Jumanji (same studio!) where terrifying and sometimes fictional things come to life to terrorize a town. It looks cute enough, but I can't imagine it finishes as high as the original. Director Ari Sandel has When We First Met (38%) and The DUFF (71%) under his belt so far. I think this one splits the difference on those two and doesn't quite get the fresh rating. It may wind up surprising, but I don't have much confidence in the critical reaction, particularly given the fact that the review embargo hasn't lifted yet.

We went 2-2 on the predictions from last week with the real win coming from going low on Venom (Predicted: 32% Actual: 31%). This movie looked like a true disaster from the trailers, and it didn't help that the first reactions didn't start to trickle in until just a few days before release. CinemaBlend's Sean O'Connell summed it up rather well in his review with, "...the movie gets a metaphorical flat tire, and wrecks itself on the Hollywood superhero highway." It's a shame, because it is easily the worst reviewed of all the comic book movies we've seen so far in 2018, including Black Panther (97%), Avengers: Infinity War (84%), Deadpool 2 (82%), Ant-Man And The Wasp (88%) and Teen Titans Go! To The Movies (90%). We only have one of these blockbusters left in 2018 - James Wan's Aquaman - and we're sincerely hoping it does a lot better than Sony's Spider-Man-Without-Spider-Man movie.Meanwhile, I had a head start on A Star is Born (Predicted: 95% Actual: 91%) so it's tough to take too much credit on this prediction considering over 100 reviews were already in before the article was posted. It did drop some over the course of the week (about three percent), but that will do nothing to get in the way of its potential Oscar chances. There are still a lot of movies left to come out in 2018, many of them not premiering at the big film festivals, but right now the movie looks right on target to get at least at a Best Picture nomination. And if the opinion found in the various write-ups is any indication, it sounds like there is a good chance that both Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga will be up for prizes in the performance categories as well.Next time around we will only have one new movie going into wide release, but considering it's David Gordon Green's Halloween, there's enough excitement going around for three movies. It's gonna be a Rotten Week!

Ben Affleck's 7 Best Batman Moments In The DCEU

Ben Affleck's 7 Best Batman Moments In The DCEU

Ben Affleck's tenure as Batman is at an end, and while he never got a solo film to strut his stuff, the actor has given audiences more awesome Batman moments than some actors who have. For those suspicious of that statement, or others simply wishing to relive the best moments of his time wearing the cowl in the DC Extended Universe, here are Affleck's seven best Batman moments in chronological order.

Batman Runs Towards The DestructionOne of Ben Affleck's first scenes as Batman is perhaps his coolest, as Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice showed Man of Steel's battle in Metropolis from an alternate point of view. Bruce Wayne spots the destruction and mayhem going on in the distance, and despite him being out of harm's way, he gets in his car and drives towards the destruction for a closer look.

That much was expected, because he is Batman after all, but what follows really takes it over the top. Bruce continues to delve further into the chaos and in harm's way, despite the fact that none of his Batman gear is on hand. He does what he can to help the victims of the collapsed building, which isn't much. Though he doesn't do a lot, the scene is a perfect show of Batman's want to help others and protect humanity.

Batman Scares A Rookie CopFear is a big part of how Batman operates, and while he's a good guy, he's also scary as hell. Batman films have generally been good about showing this, although it's usually through the lens of villains. This changed in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice when a rookie cop heads off in search of The Dark Knight after learning he's on the second floor.

The young cop panics upon spotting Batman and begins firing wildly out of fear. Afterward, he explains to his colleague that he's never seen him in person, as if to justify almost killing him. The scene is especially excellent over similar Batman scenes as it shows the hero is not just a figure feared by criminals. A hero who operates on fear could decide only to intimidate criminals with his presence, but it probably works better when everyone is afraid.

Batman's Showdown With SupermanIt's the cinematic event the world waited a long time to see and, for the most part, it didn't disappoint. Unfortunately, the "Martha" scene has somewhat tarnished the legacy of what was one of Batman v Superman's best fight scenes, and one of the best the DCEU has done in general. Who would've thought with the way that fight started that it would be Batman ultimately deciding whether Superman lived or died?

The movie did a great job of making it seem like Batman's extensive preparation for the battle was a big waste of time. The first two and a half minutes are just him getting blasted back as Superman tears through his traps with little struggle. Then, Bats hits him with the Kryptonite grenade, and one has to wonder if that wasn't all part of a plan to convince Supes to lower his guard for that attack that turned the tables.

Batman Tears Through A WarehouseOnce Batman and Superman bond over the shared name of their mothers, Bruce hauls ass to a warehouse where Clark's mother is being held hostage by criminals hired by Lex Luthor. This leads to what may be the best fight sequence in the DCEU to date, as Batman tears through a large room of armed assassins using a mixture of gadgets and hand-to-hand combat. It's chaotic, brutal, gritty and Batman at his finest.

Which makes it all the more devastating that Ben Affleck's Batman never got a solo movie. Imagine a feature that's a mix of the stealth and the action of the warehouse fight. There's no way a movie like that is getting panned, regardless of how many times characters name drop "Martha." Granted, DC might still keep that type of Batman in The Batman, but the fact that it won't be Batfleck behind the cowl already makes it a bit disappointing.

Batman Chases Joker And HarleyBatman didn't get a lot of time in Suicide Squad, but he sure made what little screen-time he was given counted. Ben Affleck is first seen confronting Deadshot in front of his daughter, and then later he's chasing down Harley and Joker on the Gotham City streets. The Dark Knight starts the journey in the Batmobile, but for some reason ultimately decides going to the roof is the better play.

It doesn't make a lot of sense, but it looks cool as hell. Plus, Batman has a reason for everything, so who can really say staying in the highly armored car was the optimal strategy as opposed to dodging bullets on top of a purple Vaydor? Whatever his reasons, Batman was able to save Harley because he was out of the car. Side note, it's a shame those two probably won't get to discuss that kiss she snuck post rescue.

Batman Battles The ParademonBatman fights a ton of Parademons in Justice League, but the coolest of these tussles sees him using a would-be thief as bait to lure the first seen Parademon out. What's even crazier is that Bruce doesn't decide to view this thing from a distance or throw a patented Bat-tracking device on the beast. Instead, he takes a running start off the ledge, tackles the hell-spawn midair and goes flying with it into the night.

It's such a wild scene, while at the same time so Batman. The Caped Crusader recognized a threat, devised a way to get a closer look and then did what had to be done. Wonder Woman and Superman may have been able to do it quicker, and with far less effort, but Bruce's humanity only makes the whole thing even more badass. Again, it's a shame we couldn't see more of Batfleck doing stuff like this in a solo movie.

Batman Inspires The FlashThe cinematic Batman has never been much for monologues, but he's had a handful of memorable lines in his various films. One of the better ones from recent memory came from Justice League, when Bruce was forced to come up with some words of wisdom for a rattled Barry Allen. Bruce had to choose his words carefully with The Flash, or risk losing The Fastest Man Alive to an anxiety attack.

Luckily, he found some, and "save one" proved to do the job just fine. Flash managed to shake off his anxiety enough to do the job, and Batman was able to continue saving the day without another hero tapping on his shoulder and asking what he should be doing. It's one of Batman's best speeches of Ben Affleck's whole tenure, although maybe we shouldn't say that in the freak chance the Snyder Cut gets released.

So what was the best Batfleck moment from this group? Be sure to cast a vote in the poll or drop down to the comments and talk about a pivotal scene that we may have missed. For more info on The Batman, read up on what the franchise's new game plan is post-Affleck.
