Could The Sinister Six Movie Still Happen? Heres What Drew Goddard Says

Back when the Amazing Spider-Man film series was still going, Sony was planning to release several films to turn this franchise into a cinematic universe, Sinister Six being one of these movies. But once The Amazing Spider-Man 2 underperformed and Sony teamed up with Marvel Studios to bring the Web-Slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sinister Six was shelved. Four years later, Drew Goddard still looks back fondly at his time writing Sinister Six and notes that perhaps there will come a day where his movie becomes a reality. In Goddard's words:

It was really fun. I wouldn't have done it had I not thought there was a real opportunity to do something different and exciting and just flat-out bananas. It was very much me and --- a much more commercial version of --- the Cabin mentality. The punk rock mentality that led to Cabin is very much at the core of Sinister Six. That's a fun one. Who knows, it could see the light of day. It's funny, I've been through a lot of volatility at a lot of different studios. Between MGM and Sony and Fox. At a certain point, you start to realize, 'Oh, this is just a volatile business' and you try to stay afloat as the boat rocks back and forth.

The movie-making world is indeed volatile, especially when it comes to the superhero genre. Sony was so sure that the Amazing Spider-Man continuity was going to grow, and less than half a decade later, Tom Holland's Spider-Man is one of the most important characters in the MCU. So even though Sinister Six has been gathering dust, as Drew Goddard mentioned to THR, perhaps his script might be dusted off at some point if enough things change.

Whether or not Drew Goddard's Sinister Six movie ever sees the light of day, seeds have already been planted for the super villain team to possibly introduced into the MCU. In the Spider-Man: Homecoming mid-credits scene, Mac Gargan, better known in the comics as The Scorpion, found Michael Keaton's Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. Vulture, in prison and mentioned he and several others on the outside wanted to get revenge on Spider-Man. So perhaps in a third MCU Spider-Man movie or beyond, this sinister group of six villains will officially band together.

Then there's Sony universe of Spider-Man characters, which kicked off last weekend with the release of Venom and will include movies like Morbius and Kraven the Hunter. Given that there's been no official announcement of Spider-Man, whether he's played by Tom Holland or a brand-new version, being involved in this particular franchise, it's difficult to imagine how a Sinister Six movie could work without the Wall-Crawler being present. Then again, perhaps the story could be adjusted to work with a different hero, like Silk or Miles Morales.

The Spider-Man saga will continue when Spider-Man: Far From Home spins its web in theaters on July 5, 2019. For the Drew Goddard fans out there, his latest directorial endeavor, Bad Times at the El Royale, is now playing in theaters.

Gemini Man's Big Challenge Revolved Around Will Smith's Performance, According To Ang Lee

Gemini Man's Big Challenge Revolved Around Will Smith's Performance, According To Ang Lee

Ang Lees next project has quietly been coming together over at Paramount for over a year. At CinemaCon, the director revealed he is in the home stretch for Gemini Man, a high concept new thriller that will hit theaters later in 2019 starring Will Smith.

The general premise of the movie is that Will Smith plays Henry, an aging assassin who at one point gets cloned. Now, his 23-year-old clone is out to get him. Sounds fun, and the first footage looks fun, but Ang Lee says there was one problem with trying to film Will Smith as a much younger actorhes gotten much better at acting over the years.

Per the director,

Working with him over a year I found that the present-day Will Smith is such a surprisingly fine actor. He brought the character Harry to such a sophistication, melancholy, courage and sophistication I would say. I found his performance, I would say, is just exquisite. Now the really hard part was as I mentioned the junior, the 23-year-old.

Will Smiths caliber of acting has changed over time and Ang Lee also revealed that it was an unbelievable challenge to get the actor to play both roles, one with experience and sophistication and one with youth and courage. He also noted:

We have a very high class problem, which is Will Smith is a lot better actor today than what he used to be. Im not joking. Thats a real problem for me because of how many layers, how daring an actor has to be, how willing he is to be so we can get down to the essence: peel the layers of his personality, his experience and his performance experience.

Back in the days when Will Smith was a catchphrase machine and one of the most energetic presences in Hollywood, he maybe hadnt fully honed his craft year. Now 50, the actor has honed his skills in the acting arena considerably. Most of the time this was great on the set of Gemini Man, but it also presented challenges given the dual nature of the nature, which had Smith acting as a man of his age but also a much younger clone.

It should be noted Will Smiths own challenge related to Gemini Man seemed to have more to do with bugs than playing a kid in his twenties.

However, when the actor had to tap into the raw nature of playing a 23-year-old clone, things got tricky. At CinemaCon 2019, Ang Lee also reflected that getting Will Smith to the point where he could capably play a character with decades of less experience was heartbreaking, saying,

Get down to the essence of the innocence of him [at 23] and performing from there, I found that the result is just heartbreaking. Its something Ive never experienced before. Ive had him for like a year; Im up to here with Will Smith. So much Will Smith in my life. I think I know this mans essence as a friend as a person as a really fine, good actor.

But Gemini Man is not just about Will Smiths acting performance. Having seen first look footage from the movie, the de-aging CGI technology used to create two versions of Will Smith looks pretty fantastic.

Ang Lee is also notably using the 120 frame per second technology for Gemini Man. Its a premise he attempted once before in 2016 with Billy Lynnes Long Halftime Walk, the directors follow-up to Life of Pi. Average films are shot in 24 frames per second.

Although Billy Lynne didnt really resonate with audiences or some critics many of whom did not enjoy the visuals -- Ang Lee is giving the high frame rate another go with the 3D Gemini Man. The studio, Paramount,

Ultimately Ang Lee said he was lucky to be able to sign on a busy actor like Will Smith for the role he said very, very lucky actually and audiences will get to see whether or not the 120 frame per second rate is the wave of the future when the movie hits theaters on October 11, 2019.

Teen Titans GO! To The Movies Can't Stop Teasing Deadpool

Teen Titans GO! To The Movies Can't Stop Teasing Deadpool

Deadpool was already a Marvel Comics fan favorite for years before his solo movie debuted, but thanks to Ryan Reynolds' portrayal, the Merc with the Mouth's popularity has significantly increased over the last few years. Meanwhile, over at DC Comics, there's a character who looks an awful lot like Deadpool, though their personalities couldn't be any more different: Slade Wilson, a.k.a. Deathstroke. While Slade has clashed with numerous DC heroes over the years, he's arguably best known for being a Teen Titans villain, and with him serving as the main villain in Teen Titans GO! To the Movies, the marketing for the movie has been poking fun at his similarities to Deadpool, most recently with a text message conversation, as seen below.

Here's a little background for those of you unfamiliar with comic book history. Deathstroke was introduced in 1980, and 11 years later, Deadpool was designed to resemble Deathstroke. He was even given a similar name: Wade Wilson. Since then, Deadpool has carved out his own path with his fourth wall-breaking antics, but Teen Titans GO! To the Movies can't help but reference him in relation to Deathstroke, who's known simply as Slade in this movie. In the trailer that premiered last month, we saw Robin, Starfire, Beast Boy, Raven and Cyborg immediately assumed it was Deadpool they were dealing with, prompting Slade to wisely point out that he was the one who came out first.

Unfortunately for Slade, it's in one ear and out the other with the Teen Titans, or maybe they're just trolling him in the above text message conversation from Twitter. Regardless, Slade isn't going to get any respect from these young'uns. But while the animated version of Deathstroke suffers through these Deadpool jabs, Joe Manganiello's Deathstroke from the DC Extended Universe has his own movie in development, so it isn't all bad news for the character. As for Deadpool, his sequel adventure came out a few weeks ago and has performed incredibly critically and commercially. Just don't expect this R-rated version of the character to ever pop up in an all-ages animated movie... ever.

Keeping the comedic tone seen in the Teen Titans GO! TV series, Teen Titans GO! To the Movies sees Robin, Starfire, Beast Boy, Raven and Cyborg setting out to find a director for their movie. Upon learning that no one takes them seriously, the team of young heroes uses their conflict with Slade as an opportunity to prove that they're worthy of a movie. Along with the main voice cast from the TV series reprising their respective roles, Teen Titans GO! To the Movies' cast includes Will Arnett as Slade, Kristen Bell as Jade Wilson, Nicolas Cage as Superman, Jimmy Kimmel as Batman, Halsey as Wonder Woman and Lil Yachty as Green Lantern.

Teen Titans GO! To the Movies opens in theaters on July 27. As for what else is hitting the silver screen later this year, head to our 2018 release schedule for that information.

Teen Titans GO! To The Movies. In their quest to get their own movie, the Titans go back in time and stop the more famous heroes' origins. When they get to their time, they've messed everything up and have to go back and fix their mistake. Fixing the mistake means killing Batman's parents

And it helps that the design of the movie, purposefully low budget and owing more to the simplistic style of, say, Hanna-Barbara than modern juggernauts like Pixar, is so winningly colorful and snappy. (This movie is, first and foremost, a joy to watch.) But towards the last act of the movie, "Teen Titans Go!
